Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Launches Bike Tour
Fun Ride Provides Vehicle Free Opportunity to Ride the Streets of San Antonio before the Marathon
San Antonio, TX - For the first time in the history of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series, the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon & ½ Marathon benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure will offer a bike tour as part of the event. The inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Bike Tour will cover 22 miles of the marathon course and take place on Sunday, November 13, 2011 prior to the full and half marathon race.
“With its smooth, flat streets and numerous cultural attractions along the course, San Antonio is the perfect city for a bike tour event,” said Scott Dickey, President of Competitor Group, owner and operator of the annual marathon. “It’s a great way for local cyclists to get involved and with so many runners traveling from out of town, this gives the rest of their travelling party an opportunity to participate in the event in a different way. The added bonus of incorporating ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’ makes it something you won’t want to miss.”
Participants of the non-timed, non-competitive bike tour will receive a special T-shirt, race number, helmet sticker and finish line experience for completing the inaugural event. The bike tour participants will utilize 22 miles of a semi-closed course, with nearly the entire ride taking place on the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon route.
“We’re excited to incorporate a fun new element into the 4th annual Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio event,” said Dr. Susan Blackwood, Executive Director of San Antonio Sports. “The marathon course showcases so many great parts of our city, from the Alamo to the historic missions and the Mission Trails National Park there is truly something to enjoy every mile along the way.”
In 2010 the marathon debuted a new course, with a downtown start line on the corner of Alamo and Market Street, adjacent to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. The route travels past the Alamo, through the King William Historic District out to the historic missions and through the wooded Mission Trails National Park, which travels alongside the picturesque San Antonio River. The inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Bike Tour will start and finish in the same location as marathon and half-marathon.
The event will be limited to 1,000 entrants. Registration will open at $50 through September 15, 2011 and will go up incrementally until race weekend. For more information or to register for the event, please visit Competitor.com.
