Registration to open on Monday, May 23 at Competitor.com

St. Petersburg, FL. (May 17, 2011) – Competitor Group, Inc. (CGI), the leading media and event resource in the active lifestyle industry, today announced the unveiling of the Rock ‘n’ Roll St. Pete Half Marathon. Providing runners with a music-filled route through one of Florida’s most historic cities, the Rock ‘n’ Roll St. Pete Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012.

“We are very excited to be expanding our global marathon series to one of Florida’s most scenic destinations,” said Scott Dickey, President of CGI. “With the vibrant and active running community here in St. Petersburg, the Rock ‘n’ Roll St. Pete Half Marathon is sure to be one of the premier stops on the 2012 tour.”

The Rock ‘n’ Roll St. Pete Half Marathon will provide runners with a musically-themed, 13.1-mile course running past St. Petersburg’s most celebrated landmarks and scenic waterfront. The event will also serve as a great training tune-up run for a spring marathon such as the Country Music Marathon in Nashville or the Boston Marathon.

Race weekend kicks off on Friday, February 10th with a two-day Health & Fitness Expo at Tropicana Field, home of the Major League Baseball’s Tampa Bay Rays. The Expo, which will be free and open to the public, will showcase the latest in running products and services with interactive clinics from fitness experts.

Registration for the Rock ‘n’ Roll St. Pete Half Marathon will open on Monday, May 23. The first 500 people to register can take advantage of a special $55 entry fee on Competitor.com.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series to St. Petersburg in 2012,” commented Mayor Bill Foster.  “Competitor Group is known for putting on world class events and what a perfect fit to partner with a world class destination city such as ours.  We look forward to welcoming participants to St. Pete next February whether they are local to the area or visiting us for a weekend of fitness and entertainment.”

Mayor Foster joined Dickey and Olympic Marathon Gold Medalist Frank Shorter at a special press conference on the iconic St. Petersburg Pier to announce the new marquee event.

“The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series event in St. Pete is sure to become a destination for runners from around the world,” said Shorter, a Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series founder. “St. Pete is one of the best cities areas for running in Florida, combined with the reputation of Rock ‘n’ Roll this new half marathon will certainly become a win-win for the entire community next February.”

With the addition of St. Pete, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series now runs in 24 cities across the world, with events held in the U.S. and Madrid, Spain. Offering participants a unique running experience, the series provides live local bands, cheerleaders and a venue for thousands of fans to cheer on their friends and family.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon events create a community wide celebration by combining on course entertainment with a finish line festival and post race concert. Past Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon concert headliners have included Seal, Blues Traveler, Journey, B-52s, Goo Goo Dolls and Bret Michaels.
